“Our goals for both music and art focus in three main areas. First, our curriculum will foster appropriate skills– in music, for example, notation literacy and performance; in art, drawing and painting techniques. Second, in both music and art, students will gain an appreciation for the great masters and their works. Finally, students will be encouraged to see music and art as vehicles for devotion to God and for the edification and enjoyment of his people.”
Providence students in grades 3-8 are invited to audition for our extra-curricular grammar school choir directed by Mrs. Christa Reiter. The goal of the choir is to achieve excellence in vocal music, working together harmoniously in a nurturing community atmosphere. The choir has earned a I (Superior) rating at contest each of the last two years. They also had an opportunity to sing “God Bless America” at a Cardinal’s game.
Upper School Choir
The Providence Upper School Choir, composed of all 9th – 12th grade students, is directed by Mrs. Kristin Egan. In class, students practice proper singing technique and study elements of music theory while learning quality choral literature. Literature is chosen from a variety of musical periods, incorporating different styles and languages. The choir then shares this music with our community, singing for various events throughout the school year. Music education contributes to a stronger body and mind, and develops valuable life skills such as confidence, self-discipline, responsibility, and cooperation. The Upper School Choir is intended to provide a supportive and fun environment in which to foster growth in all of these areas.
Providence students who play instruments are invited to audition and play prelude music or interlude music at our all-school presentations, including Grandparent’s Day, Thanksgiving Festival, Lessons and Carols (Christmas Program), and Evening of Excellence (Spring Program).
