It is the expressed goal of our basketball program to assist our young men and women in their ability to glorify God in their attitude and actions. Our basketball teams play against local private and home school teams at the Junior High, Junior Varsity and Varsity level. The level of competition depends on the boys and girls currently enrolled and participating in basketball at Providence and at the schools with which we compete
For practice and game details, please see the basketball calendar.
Students K-12 are welcome to participate in Cross Country. The season lasts from the start of the school year through mid October.
We believe that Cross Country meets the Classical-Christian-Community vision for our school in the following ways:
Classical - the sport of running has the most Classical roots of any sport. From the early Olympic games to the historic Marathon run, the sport of running is a time honored test of endurance and discipline. We believe that the sport of Cross Country supports the vision of the Classically trained student as a whole person.
Christian - the apostle Paul recognized the validity of running in his first letter to the Corinthians.
"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever."
We believe that the process of physical training supports the godly virtue of self-discipline and will reap spiritual rewards just as academic discipline will.
Community - because "any body" can run, we believe that Cross Country can be an activity enjoyed by families in a community environment. We want to encourage fitness for families and invite parents and siblings to join us at practices. We will also be encouraging families to run together on the weekends, spending quality time together.
The Providence girl's volleyball team plays against various local private schools each fall at the junior high and varsity levels.
